I spend a short period of time each summer painting landscape. This body of work is a side project. I have painted in New Hampshire, Martha’s Vineyard, Santorini, Morocco, Scotland, and Tuscany. Landscape painting requires a completely different engagement process from the conceptual work I do in the studio. Responding to light, color, and atmosphere when working on location rejuvenates my senses. When painting landscape, I focus my attention two-dimensionally and three-dimensionally simultaneously, rhyming shapes and spatial relationships. I paint in all weather patterns wind, rain, sun, and thunderstorms. The images capture a moment of time on earth. The color harmonies I find resurface in the perceptual work that I do during the year when calling upon sensory memory.
